tru® and LAND partner to help former athletes find career fulfillment

Empowering former athletes to carve out a fulfilling career path after playing days are over

When individuals pursue excellence in college athletics, their focus, self-discipline, and hard work result in competitive success and personal growth. However, after the final whistle blows and playing days are over, it can be challenging to find a career path that produces the same energy and fulfillment. Several former athletes from the University of Notre Dame have joined forces to help those who are following in their footsteps tackle this important transition. 

Life After Notre Dame (LAND) was created in 2019 with a philanthropic gift provided by a Notre Dame alum and former football player. In April 2022, LAND expanded its reach to all former Notre Dame student-athletes of all 26 varsity sports and added two additional former ND athletes to its board and management team. Project LAND provides tools and resources to empower former student-athletes, student-managers, and student-trainers to successfully transition to their post-athletic careers.  Resources provided include career transition coaching, innovation / entrepreneurial training, mental wellness and safety net navigation, physical health care and rehabilitation navigation services, and emergency assistance.

The former student-athletes involved in LAND want to “pay it forward” by building a strong community and a diverse and dynamic “buddy system” of alumni who care to make a difference. They bring the same grit and humility they played with on the field to their mission of creating a personalized model of care, identifying and coordinating tools and resources based on the specific needs of each former student-athlete.  

tru® is proud to partner with LAND to help individuals uncover their unique strengths, motivations, and aspirations. The introspective approach empowers these former athletes to pursue a career path that aligns with their true potential and passions.

Early results from the LAND/tru partnership are very encouraging. "The entire experience was completely personalized and analyzed my personality and work style in a way I've never had any type of career coaching do in the past,” according to an early participant. “tru helped me self-reflect on what types of work environments I thrive in, and which ones I struggle in. I will be able to use this information to help navigate my future career and any obstacles I may face."
